Dawn Cookson RBSA - Watercolour

The Sewing Circle - Is a large exciting well handled watercolour by a student of Pietro Annigoni of Perugia Italy.
The quality of the work is best seen in the facial characteristics of the subjects and their juxtaposition with each other.
Dawn Cookson (1925 - 2005) studied at Birmingham College of Art and later at the Perugia Academy of Fine Arts and as assistant to Annigoni, the foremost portrait painter of his day. In 1991 Dawn was invited to paint a portrait of the Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace.
It is signed, mounted and framed behind glass.

George Phoenix (1863 - 1935) The Cavalier

This is a superb watercolour by a well documented British artist, who made his name from his portraits. This characterful depiction of a Cavalier in full regalia is probably one of the finest. George Phoenix studied at the Birmingham School of Art and lived in Wolverhampton and Bournemouth. He exhibited from 1889 at the RSA Birmingham, Walker Gallery Liverpool, the New Gallery and 13 works at the Royal Academy London. His work is represented in the Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery, London.
It comes in its original period gilded frame. Signed: Geo Phoenix

John Henry Mole (1814 - 1886) RI, ROI, VPRI

Young Country Girl Gathering Kindling
This is a superb Victorian watercolour from an acknowledged master of this genre.
John Henry Mole was a landscape and miniature painter in watercolours who was born at Alnwick in Northumberland, and lived in London. He was elected RI in 1848, ROI in 1883 and Vice President of the RI in 1884. He exhibited extensively at the Walker Gallery Liverpool, Glasgow Institute and in London at the RBA, RI, ROI, Arthur Tooth & Son, BI, Grosvenor Gallery and the RA. This work is signed with initials lower left.
Date: c1860-1885 Size: 19 1/2" x 15 1/2" including the gilt frame.

After Hercules Brabazon Brabazon - Botzen Austrian Tyrol

This is a superbly executed early 20th Century watercolour landscape in the style of Hercules Brabazon Brabazon. It shows the grandeur of the mountains with the lakeside village nestling in the valley. The artist has shown excellent techniques and choice of palette. It is unsigned, but is annotated beneath the mount: Botzen, Tyrol, HBB. It is newly framed and mounted behind glass.

British School - On Potter Fell - Lakeland

This is a traditional English watercolour, competently executed, depicting a classic country scene with a stream making its way through the green valley of Potter Fell in the Cumbrian Lake District.
It is signed and dated in the lower right corner, B.B.Land '06 and the original back board carried the inscription 'On Potter Fell Spring 1906'.
The lower left corner bears an embossed quality stamp dated 1904 Guaranteed pure paper R.W.S. (Royal Watercolour Society) Pall Mall.
A pleasing subject, well handled. It is mounted and framed behind glass.

British School - A Day by the Seaside

Edwardian Watercolour
This is a large and pleasing work in the
best Edwardian tradition, depicting
seaside visitors dressed in the appropriate
manner, with lodging houses beyond and
no signs of commercial activity.
The subject matter is well composed and
accomplished, but unsigned.
It is framed and mounted behind glass, in
a later gilt frame.

Eulalia Hillyard Swinstead - A Village Scene c1920

This is a charming English watercolour depicting a village street with its 'traffic', a horse drawn delivery cart, dating to the 1920's.
Eulalia Swinstead was born in 1893, the daughter of George Hillyard Swinstead, a professional artist. She lived at Hampstead Heath, London and exhibited at the Royal Academy, and the Royal Cambrian Academy from 1918 to 1932.
It is fully signed, and framed behind glass.
